healing the body with planetary harmonics
Acutonics® Sound Healing is an integrated system of healing and education that incorporates ancient Taoist teachings of the meridians, pre-meridians, and the immortal body with sound.
Developed at the Kairos Institute of Sound Healing, this energy-based non-invasive treatment is similar to acupuncture. Precision calibrated tuning forks are applied to specific acupuncture and acupressure points to access the body's Meridian and Chakra energy systems. These tuning forks represent a natural harmonic series based on the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun and other planets. They are used on specific points to help balance and strengthen the physical, emotional, and spiritual body.
Acutonics treatments are available at such spas as El Monte Sagrado in Taos, New Mexico(www.elmontesagrado.com) and Canyon Ranch(www.canyonranch.com).
www.Find-Bliss.com managing editor Kyle Roderick interviewed Ellen Franklin, Ph.D., CEO of the Kairos Institute of Sound Healing regarding how Acutonics can help people access inner peace and proactively manage their health.
*Kyle Roderick: To begin with, please explain the frequencies that Acutonics uses. What are they based on?
Ellen Franklin, Ph.D.: The frequencies that we use are based on the work of Kepler, who in 1627 discovered the elliptical paths of the planets, and calculated the velocity of all known planets (invalidating the traditional circular orbits) and the scientific evidence of the relationship between the musical ratios and the planetary motion. This is also known as The Music of the Spheres.
Although there are a number of alternative practitioners currently working with tuning forks, the Acutonics system is unique. It provides a deep, comprehensive methodology that is rooted in Oriental Medicine and Music Theory. Acutonics is working with specific frequencies and musical Intervals that are tuned to the orbital properties of the Earth, Moon, Sun and other Planets, and applying these intervals directly on acupuncture and acupressure point combinations, as well as trigger points, and the chakras. Each musical combination or interval that we work with possesses unique healing properties, and they help us to connect more deeply with the cycles of nature and the universe.
For example, a 3rd is created by combining our Ohm Fork, the sound of the Earth traveling through the four seasons, and the Zodiac Earth, the sound of the Earth traveling through the zodiac, which is a 25,000-year cycle. This has proved to be an excellent combination for reducing pain and scar tissue.
Mars and Venus combined create a 5th, which provides an opening or a gateway and is an excellent combination for chakra balancing. This also helps us to open and balance when we are pulled in too many directions and/or and feel out of harmony with our life, family, and work.
Donna Carey co-creator of the Acutonics system, was Clinical Dean at the Northwest Institute of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (NIAOM) in Seattle. Acutonics was introduced in the continuing education program at the school as well as the student and community clinics for which Carey had responsibility. Carey had a very successful acupuncture practice in Madison, WI., and worked with tuning forks, symphonic gongs and other sound healing tools prior to taking the position at NIAOM.
Carey, who had a near death experience in which she heard the Music of the Spheres, spent significant time as a clinician trying to develop a methodology for working with these heavenly harmonies in a healing setting. She tried a variety of tools, chromatic tuning forks, symphonic gongs and Tibetan bowls. Eventually, she realized that the development of high quality tuning forks, tuned to the orbital properties of the planets (the Music of the Spheres), was the answer.
The Acutonics System was born out of a deep clinical knowledge and belief in the efficacy of sound and vibration as a form of healing. However, Carey felt that a methodology was seriously lacking and that the available tuning forks were not of a high enough quality for use on the body. She spent significant time in research and development. She experimented until she found a manufacturing technique that met exacting standards for quality, sustain and resonance. As these tools were designed for use on the body, high quality was essential.
Since the first class was taught at NIAOM in 1997, thousands of practitioners have been trained, and the Acutonics Certification Program was created, which provides an in-depth training in the discipline.
Acutonics has been successfully used for the past decade in clinical settings around the country. There are thousands of case studies that speak to the efficacy of this medicine, which reminds us of the mystery and grace of the universe, and opens us to the infinite possibility of reconnecting with Source, the ultimate source of original harmony.
Kyle Roderick: How can Acutonics help people manage and improve health conditions? What is the evidence supporting its efficacy?
Ellen Franklin, Ph.D.: One of the driving factors behind the creation of Acutonics was the intent to develop a non-invasive system that helps people take an active role in their own health care. So many of the illnesses we experience today are the result of being disconnected from the cycles and rhythms of nature and from our life's true purpose. This alienation or disharmony manifests as imbalance and disease of the body and its systems.
The Acutonics System seeks to harmonize and balance the body, psyche, and soul. It strives to reconnect the individual with the natural rhythms, pulses, cycles, and flows of our worlds. Acutonics can help in bridging, balancing, and harmonizing the inner and outer universes; the microcosm and the macrocosm.
This non-invasive, highly effective methodology helps people care for themselves in a healthy, pro-active way. There are numerous opportunities for self education, and the ability to learn basic techniques that can be implemented at home for stress reduction, to open up the airways and ease breathing during an asthma attack, to get the sinuses to drain and to reduce the symptoms associated with neuropathies.
Acutonics has also been integrated into many western medical environments with client populations that were critically ill, as well as with young children, and the needle phobic. It is a modality that makes the basic principles of Oriental Medicine and energetic healing accessible to people while providing an adjunct therapy that can be easily integrated into many types of clinical practice.
This methodology has been used in a wide range of clinical settings for more than ten years. There are thousands of case studies and clinical documentaries that have been collected from teachers and practitioners of Acutonics that cover the treatment of diverse imbalances and diseases including those that are associated with psycho spiritual transformation. These cases speak to the efficacy of the medicine which is being used by acupuncturists, massage practitioners, naturopaths, chiropractors, nurses and doctors.
Kyle Roderick: Can people remedy their conditions with Acutonics at-home treatments?
Ellen Franklin, Ph.D.: The beauty of this healing system is that there are simple techniques that people can learn to do at home that can dramatically improve their quality of life. Many of our practitioners asked us to develop tuning fork sets that they could make available to their clients. These are sold with a simple instruction pamphlet that demonstrates techniques for application, and basic points that are easy to access at home.
We make both the Ohm Octave and the Ohm Unison available, which are deeply grounding, excellent for helping people to relax and ease the stress of daily life. The Mars/Venus Set is a 5th or an opening, and this is an excellent tool that helps us to balance the physical, emotional and spiritual. They also help us to access our creativity, open our hearts and to breath more easily. The Solar 7th is joyful, uplifting, and generative and can help us to boost our immune system, feel more revitalized, reduce joint pain and provide support for troubling allergies.
Kyle Roderick: Where can people find Acutonics practitioners? How can they find them?
Ellen Franklin, Ph.D.: Currently we have practitioners in the US, Canada, Mexico, Costa Rica, New Zealand, Australia and Israel. Our text book, "Acutonics®: There's No Place Like Ohm, Sound Healing, Oriental Medicine and the Cosmic Mysteries," is being translated into Spanish and will be available this summer.
